The mission of the Japan Retina and Vitreous Society (JRVS) is to promote clinical and basic research on retinal and vitreous diseases, provide an open forum for the exchange of knowledge among members, and contribute to the advancement of ophthalmic science and society.

History
The Japan Retina and Vitreous Society was established in 1963 as the Retinal Detachment Study Group. It was reorganized in 1977 as the Society for the Study of Retinal Detachment and further developed into the Retinal Detachment Society in 1985. In 1995, it was officially renamed the Japan Retina and Vitreous Society, marking its advancement into a nationwide academic organization.

Activities

1. Organization of Academic Meetings
   The JRVS Annual General Meeting is held annually.
2. Publication of Academic Works and Books
   Academic papers by JRVS members are published twice a year in the Japanese Review of Clinical Ophthalmology, issued by the Committee of Japanese Review of Clinical Ophthalmology.
   
   These papers are compiled and distributed as part of the official JRVS Journal.
